INVESTING IN CHANGE
Developing Local Capacity
We provide technical assistance and engage in participatory grant making, working together with civil society and governments to ensure that local capacity can sustain inclusive, community-based supports and services.
To fulfill its mission, INclude considers targeted participatory grant making an important tool to complement its advocacy and technical assistance work. We ensure that donor resources are used effectively through rigorous due diligence and application review processes. INclude’s participatory grant making involves local and regional partners in determining meaningful investments from the very beginning, including: assessing the current experience of people with intellectual and

psychosocial disabilities; identifying and prioritizing local needs; identifying enabling factors and partners that can be engaged and leveraged; developing unique proposals for initiatives that can build on and develop local capacity; a reflective action process that facilitates ongoing learning with adjustments that maximize impact; and a grantee-centered approach with INclude’s on-the-ground presence and ongoing communication.

INclude uses technical assistance to ensure that local partners have the necessary skills/knowledge and expertise to implement and develop their work. INclude provides need-based support to local organizations through its own specialized experts and external consultants. Areas of interest include

grant-writing, training, legal support, development of community-based support models and social enterprises. INclude’s local partners also share valuable know-how with one another across borders and throughout regions, with INclude facilitating this process through study visits and trainings.
